Ethiopians in Beirut mourn those killed in ET409 crash
At the Ethiopian Full Gospel Church just outside Beirut, Ethiopian women mourn the loss of Hany Gebre and others who died aboard an Ethiopians Airline flight that crashed shortly after takeoff from Beirut’s airport in the early morning hours on 25 January. Hany, a member of the congregation, had been a domestic worker for a Lebanese family in Beirut for three years and was taking her first trip home in that time to spend one month visiting her family in Ethiopia. The Church serves as an important meeting place for the tightly knit community of Ethiopian women, most of whom are employed as domestic workers and are usually allowed Sunday as their only day off work.
